HOW TO SPEND A WEEK IN MONTREAL

After a hectic month road tripping through Alaska and volunteering in Costa Rica we headed to Montreal for some down time. We have been travelling full time now for over 7 months and needed to head to a city that was a little more relaxed to get back some energy you most certainly need when travelling none stop!

We absolutely love Canada and seeing as we had never stepped foot in Eastern Canada we thought Montreal would be the perfect choice. The area has incredible architecture, is full of culture and has an abundant of cute cafes and stores lining the streets.

Here is how we spent a week in Montreal..

Day 1

We spent our first day in Montreal strolling through the hip area of Mont Royal. The streets where lined with vintage stores and cool cafes, with street performers on every corner. For lunch we had heard that Montreal is famous for their bagels and so we simply had to try them! We headed to St-Viateur Bagel & Cafe and ordered two vegetarian filled bagels along with a french pressed coffee.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9cNVcxwr-I

Day 2

We grabbed a train (which is super simple to use) and headed into downtown Montreal. We walked along Saint Catherine Street which is home to a ton of major retailers and spent a few hours window shopping. Late in the afternoon we decided to treat ourselves to a cheeky movie and some popcorn.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goQ8JNKSGA8

Day 3

Today we headed into one of the oldest areas of Montreal, named Old Montreal. Many buildings in the area date back to Old France and is one of the most beautiful areas we explored during our time here. One of our favourite streets in the area is St Paul Street, the oldest street in Montreal with much of the street still paved with cobblestone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3__X55KsrM

Day 4

We went for a hike through Mont Royal Park which is a beautiful hill that gives incredible views of downtown Montreal at the lookout point on top of the hill. Once we reached the lookout point and took a moment to take in the views we headed on towards Saint Joseph’s Oratory - Canada’s largest church!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yo-Waj7nI0

Day 5

We heard that Montreal had a gigantic dome and we just had to find it. Located at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen's Island, The Montreal Biosphere is one beautiful structure. Housing the United States pavilion during the Expo 67 world’s fair, the outer covering was destroyed during a fire back in 1976. Until 1990, access to the site was forbidden due to structural concerns. It is now used as a museum, a very cool building worth checking out!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwL7mLmkna8

Day 6

Walking along the streets of Montreal we stumbled upon a Cat Cafe - yep, there were actual cats living in the cafe!! After an iced coffee with some feline friends we headed into town to explore Montreal's Underground City. As the winters in Montreal can get pretty extreme they decided to build a 12 km2 complex with around 120 exterior accesses that houses shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, cinemas, museums, universities and so much more! It’s one of the biggest underground complexes in the world, and almost 500,000 people use it every day during those chilly winter days.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVoDCgsBwMs

Now on to you - what would you do during day 7 in Montreal?
