8 THINGS YOU MUST DO IN PALAWAN, THE PHILIPPINES

Palawan is by far one of the most beautiful islands in the world and if you are planning an itinerary to the Philippines you need to have it at the top of your list!

During our recent 3 week adventure with TourRadar exploring as much of the Philippines as we could, Palawan ending up being our favourite spot. Waking up to the fresh sea breeze, spending the day swimming in some of the bluest waters we have seen and ending each day at a different beach watching the sunset - how can it get any better?

To help you with your planning, here's our top 8 picks of things you must do during a visit to stunning Palawan.

1. Underground River in National Park

The Underground River was a highlight of ours during our travels to Palawan. It is a UNESCO world heritage site and is one of the new 7 Natural Wonders of the World! This cave complex is massive, stretching for more than 8km - which makes it the 2nd largest subterranean river known to man.

The tour will take you on a kayak adventure through the cave, and is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

2. Kayaking in Small Lagoon

This secret lagoon is one of our favourite spots in all of the Philippines. When you arrive you will be told to paddle out to a small opening in between some rocks, and once you enter you will be greeted with the most stunning blue lagoon you have ever seen!

We visited here during our Philippines tour with TourRadar, and you can also get here on the El Nido tour A. They give tourists an allocated time to visit to ensure that the lagoon never gets over crowded.

3. Firefly Tour in Puerto Princesa

Around 45 minutes drive from the capital Puerto Princesa is the Iwahig River. Here they do magical firefly tours where you join a small group and canoe down a pitch-black river looking for fireflies. As your canoe manoeuvres through the mangroves you will see them light up like Christmas lights!

4. Island Hop in El Nido

El Nido is a must when travelling to Palawan, and when there you need to go on an island hopping tour. They have 4 tours to choose from taking you to lagoons, beaches and pristine snorkelling spots.

We have put together a guide to everything you need to know when visiting El Nido that we recommend you check out.

6. Enjoy the Sunset at Las Cabanas Beach

Las Cabanas beach is our favourite in all of Palawan. It is located near El Nido, and to get here we recommend grabbing a tricycle and simply tell them the name of the beach - all the locals know this spot! There are a couple of restaurants along the beach, and if you head out during sunset many do buy 1 get 1 free cocktails.

Make sure you walk right to the tip of the beach where you will be greeted to the most epic photo spot ever!

7. Best Lunch at Lio Beach

If you are coming to Palawan and looking for a place to eat, our favourite spot on the island is at Lio Beach. Located around 20 minutes drive from El Nido, this is a beautiful beach to relax under a coconut tree or go for a dip in the sea... and is also the best spot to eat!

Shaka El Nido serves some of the most delicious, fresh food we tried during our entire time in the Philippines. From smoothie bowls, fresh burgers & wraps to healthy juices - it is an awesome spot if you need a little break from rice and meat.

8. Relax at San Rafael Beach

During our time in Palawan we spent 2 nights staying at San Rafael Beach, and we literally did not see one other people during our time there. If you are looking to spend a day or two away from the hustle & bustle we totally recommend staying at San Rafael Beach.

IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE ALL THIS AND MORE, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT THE 19 DAY TOUR WE DID IN THE PHILIPPINES WITH TOURRADAR.
