ULURU 3 DAY ITINERARY | NORTHERN TERRITORY, AUSTRALIA

As one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations, Uluru is a spot we have been looking forward to the most on our Big Lap around Oz! After visiting a couple of years back and falling in love with this breathtaking national park, we just could not wait for little Hunter to see it for herself. On our three-day trip, we managed to see most of the natural beauty of this stunning destination.

If you’re interested in doing a little bit of solo travel or even family travel, here is a three-day itinerary that we highly recommend so you can see all of the sights!

Where to stay

We highly recommend staying at Ayers Rock Campground. It is located in Yulara, and it is the closest to the national park. However, it is best if you book in advance because it definitely fills up due to popularity!

Day 1

Waking up before the sun, we made some coffee and found a great spot in the parking lot to watch the sunrise.  We are massive nature lovers, and Talinguru Nyakunytjaku was the perfect place to see the start of another gorgeous day!

After watching the sunrise, we hung out and checked out more of the surrounding area before returning for the sunset.  If you haven't been before, sunrises and sunsets are a must.  The sunsets over Uluru have been ranked some of the best in the world. The colours of the rocks are fascinating to watch as they change from red to orange and finally to purple.

At night, the Field of Lights was our next stop. It is $44 per adult and $31 per child, but it is well worth the investment. You can witness more than 50,000 slender stems of colour once the sun goes down, illuminating the area and creating a scene you have to see for yourself!

Day 2

The next day we started our morning with a family stroll along the Uluru base walk. Uluru itself has a path about 10 kilometers around which takes you around the entirety of the rock. It is easy to track, and we did it with a pram and our little one in tow!

If you aren't up for the walk, you can also opt for the Segway tour to go around the base. You can even hire a bike to cycle around the base if that is more your speed.

After seeing the sunset at Uluru, we were excited to take a sunset helicopter tour to check out the rock from above. It was hands down the best experience we had there! It is a thirty-minute flight operated by Professional Helicopter Tours, featuring stunning sunset views over Uluru and Kala Tjuta.

Day 3

On our final day we embarked on the Walpa Gorge Walk at Kata Tjuta.  This was much like entering a temple—but entirely made by the natural elements.  The desert surrounding this area is a refuge for animals and plants. Entering the gorge in the winter is beautiful due to the pink daisies. While there, you might even see some wallaroo!

To cap off another fantastic mini-trip, we had a sunset picnic in front of Kata Tjuta. Near Uluru, this spot has another incredible view of the sunset. All you need to bring is a picnic rug and some snacks, and then watch as nature puts on a colourful show as day turns to night.

Uluru offers the very best for Australian travel and is one of the top destinations in the Northern Territory! Let us know if you go to Uluru and what fantastic excursions and views you experience!
