I think we may have found Europe’s best-kept secret! If you are looking for a trip to roam old Medieval streets, be surrounded by rich history and not break your bank - you need to head to Tallinn in Estonia.

Back at the end of 2019, we went on an amazing Christmas adventure through Europe and completely fell in love with Tallinn. We spent two days exploring the Old Town, eating delicious food and visiting Santa at the cutest Christmas markets we have ever seen!

If you are busy planning a trip to this part of the world make sure you watch our YouTube video below sharing with you everything we got up to here in Tallinn and keep on scrolling for more info.

1. Come for the Christmas Markets

Tallinn is home to one of the most magical Christmas markets we have ever visited. Located in the Town Hall Square, you will be greeted to stalls selling Christmas trinkets, food and delicious mulled wine as well as a massive Christmas Tree in the centre.

2. Wander through the streets of Old Town

The moment we entered Old Town it felt like we had stepped foot into a fairytale. We spent the afternoon strolling through alleyways and stumbling upon little shops and cafes.

3. Take in the views

Tallinn is absolutely breathtaking from above. For the best viewing spot, we recommend heading to Kohtuotsa Viewing Platform to watch the sunset of this fairytale city. This platform overlooks the Old Town, with its many church spires and orange rooftops.

Another great spot for a view is the Patkuli Viewing Platform. This spot offers amazing views of the Old Wall and St Olaf’s Church.

4. Enjoy a Traditional Medieval Dinner

If you are looking for a unique place to eat we highly recommend booking a table at Olde Hansa. Here you can have a traditional medieval experience, with the decor straight from the 15th century and the restaurant only lit by candlelight. The menu is full of delicious dishes using recipes from 700 years ago!

5. Take a Visit to Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

Built in 1990, this Russian Orthodox Church is absolutely beautiful as it sits atop Toompeas Hill. Inside you can admire the mosaics and 11 church bells.

Where we stayed

We spent our time staying at an Airbnb apartment right next to Old Town. With two bedrooms, a full kitchen, living room, balcony and even our own sauna!
