5 REASONS TO VISIT KERALA, INDIA

Kerala, also known as 'Gods Own Country', is a breathtaking state and incredible tourist spot here in India. Located between the Western Ghats mountains and the Arabian Sea, this spot is full of wildlife, lush greenery, stunning backwaters, sandy beaches, spice and tea plantations and is rich in history and culture.

If you are planning a trip to India we are here to convince you why Kerala needs to be on your itinerary!

1. The People

If there is one reason for visiting Kerala is has to be the people. Nothing will beat arriving in a new part of the world with open arms - and that is exactly how it feels arriving in Kerala. The locals are full of warmth, smiles and are always happy to help if you need directions or if your looking for a locals recommendation.

To get a real feel for the culture and traditions we recommend experiencing a homestay. This is where tourists live together with locals in their own homes and become fully immersed in the lifestyle, language, cuisine, religion and every day life. There are plenty of certified Homestay's throughout Kerala to choose from.

2. Experience living on a houseboat

Floating along the backwaters in Kerala on one of the most incredible waterways in the world is a must. The houseboats are designed to look like a traditional rice barge and is a very relaxing way to spend your travels. Your days will be spent floating by lush green landscape, diverse wildlife and houses and villages lining the backwaters. A journey along these waterways can not be missed.

3. Experience the rare Neelakurinji Bloom in Munnar

If you are looking for a unique experience only few people get to experience than you must head to Munnar. Every 12 years the rare Neelakurinji blooms in Eravikulam National Park painting the hillsides a beautiful blue/purple colour. The last bloom was in 2018 ... so mark 2030 in your calendar!

4. Enjoy Kerala's tasty cuisine

Kerala is known to have some of the best cuisine in India due to the large spice plantations scattered throughout the state. The cuisines of Kerala is hot and spicy and full of flavour using plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. We also recommend visiting a spice farm during a visit to Kerala too.

5. Enjoy Kerala's many beautiful beaches

Kerala is known to have some of the best beaches in the world, with white and golden sands, hundreds of palm trees, shallow lagoons and sheltered bays to spend those summer days. You will find on many beaches refreshing coconuts being sold, fresh seafood, Ayurveda massages and plenty of water sports.

Some of the best beaches are Kovalam Beach, Varkala Beach, Marari Beach, Cherai Beach and Bekal Beach.

How to get there

By Air: Kerala is pretty much as far south as you can get in India making it not the easiest place to get to via the air. If you want to fly you will have to take a connecting flight from a major Indian hub, such as Mumbai, to one of Kerala’s two airports, Cochin or Trivandrum.

By Train: Kerala is well connected by train. The easiest route would be from Delhi and Mumbai, however they are usually crowded and advance reservations are highly recommended.

By Bus: There are many buses that travel throughout the night taking you to Kerala from many major cities.
