OUR ONE WEEK POLAND ROAD TRIP GUIDE
This year our goal for travel was to explore countries that are a little off the beaten track, less touristy and a little more unique. This is where Eastern Europe comes in. There are so many countries in this part of the world that seem to be overlooked, but have become some of our favourite destinations to travel.
Our most recent stop during our Eastern Europe adventures was Poland. A place that seems to be overlooked but one that needs to be on your bucket list. We flew into Warsaw and spent just over a week road tripping around this amazing part of the world!

Day 1 - 2: Warsaw
A visit to Poland is not complete without exploring its capital, and this is exactly where our Poland travels began. We spent two full days here and you never seem to run out of things to do.
We spent most of our time here in Poland strolling along Trakt Królewski, which we think is the most beautiful part of the city. It is made up of five connecting streets where many culturally important buildings and monuments can be found. After wandering through Old Town, we headed along Krakowskie Przedmieście street and checked out the University of Warsaw, then on to Nowy Świat street where all the best cafes and restaurants can be found.
Another spot in the city that we really enjoyed was the Royal Łazienki Park. This is the largest park in the whole of Warsaw and was designed back in the 17th century. The park is home to a number of palaces, and during the summer you will find many summer concerts and free yoga and mediation classes here.

Day 3: Warsaw - Kazimierz Dolny - Lublin
It was now time to jump in our rental care and leave the capital behind. We hit the road and headed to our first small town called Kazimierz Dolny, located in central eastern Poland. It is quite a popular spot as it is one of the most beautifully situated little towns in the country. We spent the afternoon strolling through the historic Old Town Square, explored the ruins of the castle, visited the Holocaust memorial and ate some delicious dumplings.
An hour of driving later we had arrived at Lublin where we stopped to spend the night.

Day 4: Lublin - Zamosc
Waking up in Lublin we wanted to make the most of our morning here before heading back on the road. As with many Polish towns and cities, Lublin has a particularly impressive Old Town where we had some breakfast from a local bakery. At the far end of the Old Town, you will find Lublin Castle. This is the perfect spot to get amazing views over the city and we highly recommend checking out the Gothic chapel.
Nearby to Lublin is one of the largest German Nazi concentration camps, Majdanek. An estimated 70,000 - 100,000 people died here during to Hitler's Nazi regime. Today it is a large museum with information and details on what really when on during those times. We had a very overwhelming afternoon experiencing this site, but something we think is important to visit and remember.
Later that day we drove 2 hours to the city of Zamosc where we spent the night. Out of all the little Polish towns we visited during this road trip, Zamosc is hands down our favourite and one of Polands hidden gems. The colours and architecture of the Old Town Square is like nothing we have seen before!

Day 5: Zamosc - Roztocze Vineyards - Sandomierz
Something we did not expect when coming to Poland is that they make some delicious wine. There is a spot where the warm climate, gentile hills and fertile soil create the ideal conditions for growing some amazing grapes - The Roztocze region. We drove to a friendly locals vineyard where he showed us around, let us play with his many animals including Llama and bunnies and served us an amazing lunch with the perfect wine to pair.
After an amazing morning at the vineyard we headed off to Sandomierz. We spent that night finding a cute restaurant in the Old Town before heading off to bed.

Day 6: Sandomierz - Warsaw
Waking up in Sandomierz, there was one thing we wanted to do before leaving. We had heard that the town has underground tunnels running underneath the Old Town and we wanted to go and check it out for ourselves. We found that they do 40 minute guided tours the lead you through a chain of 30 cellars connected by 500m of tunnels! The cellars, originally used for storage, were built between the 13th and 17th centuries. The deepest point we went was about 12m below ground.
On our drive back to Warsaw we stopped off at Krzyżtopór Castle. Built in the 1600s, here you can freely walk the grounds, climb the turrets, and take in what once was a massive castle!
After a long day of driving we arrived back where it all started and checked back in to our amazing b&b.

Day 7: Day Trip to Krakow
As we had one extra day in Warsaw we decided to jump on the train and take the 2 hour journey to Krakow. To be honest, we spent most of our day here eating. We really enjoyed the cuisine here in Poland, and if you are interested in what the food is like we filmed an entire video in Krakow sharing with you some of our favourite dishes in the city.
